they're cute but would you stand in line to buy one?

People were lined up on the street outside one of the gift shops near the old town hall when I went for coffee this morning. I asked somebody: "What's going on? Is it beanie babies?" "Yup, it's beanie babies." An hour later when I came out of Starbucks after coffee, the line was still there but had clearly progressed. There's a beanie baby show at the Rolling Green this weekend. Can you believe it?

better not make Mom - i mean Tom - worry

I ran into Ned at Starbucks. He said Tom was worried about me - asking if he'd seen me and was I alright. Gee, haven't these guys got there own worries?

countdown to sumo

I have today off because the nieces are down the Cape. Hope the remnants of Tropical Storm Danny doesn't rain on their parade as it were.

Anyway, this means I can get an early start for the weekend's Black Ships festivities in Newport. I'm driving down to Nancy's momentarily so we can get up early tomorrow morning for the trek to Newport. It's an hour and a half to Providence from my house and then an hour to Newport. Not a huge deal but I hate to get up early in the morning. Everyone will be better off if I go to Providence tonight and am fresh for the drive to Newport.

There's some cat shelter thing Stacey asked Roberta to do this weekend (I forget what) and I said I couldn't do it because I am going to a sumo tournament in Newport. Roberta thought it was a joke. She's been making fun of it ever since. She says sumo isn't real - it's like the WWF wrestling. I tried to explain that this is amateur sumo - high school kids- and very real. Anyway, she couldn't imagine anyone actually being a sumo fan.

Off to the wilds of Rhode Island!
