31-May-99 Memorial Day cookout

. .
.
We slept in by way of recovering from all the company and activities of the past few days, and started to catch up on normal household stuff, mostly pruning shrubs and other yard work.

In the late afternoon we drove over to Edmands Park so I could show Arlene where I had seen about 50 ladies slippers about a week before. They were still there; in fact, with two sets of eyes, and walking around more then I'm willing to do on my way to work, we counted close to 100 flowers. If you want to see any of them in eastern Massachusetts this spring, though, you'd better hurry; some were gone by, and they won't last much longer in this hot spell. Here's a picture:

Note the deep folds in the leaves. You can easily tell the leaves from lily-of-the-valley, Canada Mayflower, or other leaves with a similar outline because of the folds.

We went over to Sue and Richard's for a memorial day cookout. There had been fancy main dishes at the wedding yesterday, but I had more appetite today for a hamburger and two big chunks of kielbasa, washed down with two Oregon raspberry wheat beers.
