27-Mar-99 Watch and watching
.
. In the evening, completely uncharacteristically, we watched Ed Wood on Sundance and Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion on Starz. I guess the point of Ed Wood is that you can't have quality without being critical. Ed was portrayed as a really likeable guy, but unable to say that anything was less than fine or perfect. He just wanted to make films, not to stretch himself or his actors to make better films. I guess he succeeded at what he set out to do. My favorite line from Romy and Michelle was, In my dream I knew the formula for glue. Of course the movie was all fluff and you knew the whole point was going to be a just be yourself thing, but the big smile on Jeanane Garofolo as her character realized that she had made someone else miserable in high school was enough in itself.
