Escort carriers

11.5.8 Surface naval combat

Convoys

(Add a new second paragraph after the first one)

In 1942, for every 5 full US or CW convoy points included in a combat, add 1 surface factor for the US or CW. In 1943, for every 5 full US or CW convoy points included in a combat, add 2 surface factors for the US or CW. In 1944 or later, for every 5 full US or CW convoy points included in a combat, add 3 surface factors for the US or CW.

11.17 Aircraft rebases

(add new paragraph to end)

Beginning in 1943, the USA on a naval impulse may rebase 1 carrier plane which is stacked on a port hex over any number of sea zones which have at least 1 USA convoy point in them, ending in another port hex. This counts against normal air moves. In 1944, the USA can do this with 2 carrier planes on a naval impulse, and in 1945 and later, with 3 carrier planes on a naval impulse. In 1944 and thereafter, the CW and Japan can do this with one carrier plane on a naval impulse, as long as the sea zones have at least 1 of their own convoy points in them.

22.4.12 Amphibious units

(add new paragraph to end)

All US AMPH units have a 1 carrier value. All 5 speed AMPHs for every other major power have a 1 carrier value. These AMPHs may carry and utilize one carrier plane just like a CV, with no effect on their transport ability.

Background/Purpose: A few fun rules to more precisely simulate the escort carriers that were built in abundance by the USA, and to a lesser degree by the CW and Japan.

Dave's Notes: the ability of some AMPHs to use small carrier plane groups will give them some air coverage when invading, and against possible enemy action at sea. Of course, you'll have to pay extra bps to equip these AMPHs with carrier planes and pilots, something Japan may not bother doing. The carrier plane rebase allows a limited number of carrier planes to scoot to the frontline via escort carrier transport, which was the usual method.
