Young Israel of Brookline's
Automated Telephone Notification System

General information

  1. What is the Automated Telephone Notification System?

We are pleased to introduce Young Israel's Automated Telephone Notification System, a new way of communicating with our members. The system allows us to record telephone messages of interest to the Young Israel community and to have those messages delivered in a matter of minutes. Furthermore, this system allows members with touch-tone telephones to RSVP for events. For instance, you might hear a message like "If you plan to attend the picnic, please press 1 now." The Automated Notification System replaces our old PhoneTree? device.

  2. Who provides this service?

An independent company called OneCallNow delivers the messages. This company provides automatic calling services to hundreds of non-profit organizations around the country.

  3. What kinds of messages will I receive?

We will use the system to publicize upcoming Young Israel events, to announce exciting news like births in our community, and to distribute urgent information such as funeral announcements.

  4. When will messages arrive?

The system is programmed to deliver messages between the hours of 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM. You should not receive any messages on Shabbat, on Yom Tov, or late at night.

  5. What if I'm not home when messages arrive?

If you have voicemail or an answering machine, the Automated Notification System will leave a message. If there is no answer or if your line is busy, the system will call again later.

  6. I already subscribe to Young Israel's email list. Why should I participate in the Automated Telephone Notification System?

While we make every effort to distribute information though both media, there may be a few messages that get delivered only by telephone. Furthermore, unlike email, this system allows us to record immediate responses from our members. Depending on how often you check your email, you may discover that the Automated Telephone Notification System delivers important information more quickly. We encourage our members to participate in both services.

Managing your subscription

  1. How do I sign up to receive messages?

If you were a member of Young Israel of Brookline on September 1, 2006, you should already have been added to this service. New members will have the opportunity to sign up when they submit membership applications. If you are a Young Israel member who would like to participate in this service and have not been receiving calls, please contact the office by email or telephone.

  2. I just moved and have a new phone number. Will I continue to receive calls?

Please contact the office such that we can update our records with your new address and telephone number.

  3. May I have calls delivered to a second phone number?

Yes! Please contact the office to have your cell phone or work number added to our calling list.

  4. How can I have my number removed from the calling list?

Unsubscribing from the service is easy. Just follow this link to visit the OneCallNow website.

  5. I do not currently have access to the Internet. How can I request that my number be removed from the list?

The next time you receive a call from the Automated Telephone Notification System, press "0" on your touch-tone phone while the message is playing. An operator will assist you with your request.

Listening to messages and recording responses

  1. What can I expect to hear when I receive my first message?

You will first hear a chime followed by the greeting, "This is a message from Young Israel of Brookline." You will then hear a recorded message up to 45 seconds long. For some messages, you will have the opportunity to record a response by pressing a button on your touch-tone phone.

  2. Can I replay the last message I received?

Absolutely. This is one of the advantages of our new system. At any time, you may replay the most recent message delivered through this system by calling 1-877-698-3261 toll-free and following the voice prompts.

  3. The Automated Telephone Notification System left a message on my answering machine or voicemail. Can I still record a response?

Yes. Just dial 1-877-698-3261 to replay the most recent message and record your response.

  4. I did not have a chance to write down all the information from the last message I received. Should I just call the Young Israel office?

Please dial 1-877-698-3261 to listen to the most recent message and to write down the important information. If the details you need were not provided in the message, or if you hear a newer message than the one you wanted, please contact the office.

Sending messages

  1. Who is authorized to send messages through this system?

Rabbi Gewirtz and some members of our Board of Directors can record outgoing messages. In addition, you might receive occasional messages from the Young Israel office staff or from organizers of official shul projects.

  2. A member of the Young Israel community or a close relative has unfortunately just passed away. Could you please send out a funeral announcement?

Please contact the office or Rabbi Gewirtz right away such that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Thank you for using Young Israel of Brookline's Automated Telephone Notification System.
