Lyn graduated from the Universalist, Westbrook College, Portland Maine and Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. She interrupted her studies in 1942 to work for the war in Washington, DC, then joined the American Red Cross 8th and 9th Air Force Service Clubs in World War II and served in England, Belgium and Germany from 1944-1948.
She completed a BS from University of California, Los Angeles in 1951 and went back to work for the ARC in the Korean War in a MASH hospital in Korea, and Army Hospitals in Tokyo and Osaka from 1952-1955.
Lyn enjoyed filmmaking and captured life in the MASH hospital, Hong Kong, and Japan of that period. Transferred back to Philadelphia Army Hospital, she met and married William Procter in 1955. She raised two sons, became a Realtor and supported her husband's British sports car dealership.
In 1965 she moved with her two sons Christopher and Carleton to Townshend, Vermont. This was for her a return to the beautiful New England with skiing and hiking of her childhood. She worked as a Realtor, Secretary to the Reverend Bob Green, All Souls Church, Assistant to Superintendent of Schools S.E. Vermont, Executive Director of M.S. Society Southern Vermont and Executive Directory Windham County American Red Cross until she retired in 1982.
Architecture was a passion of Lyn's. She improved two old houses in Townshend and Brattleboro and built three new houses in Newfane and Brattleboro. Always ready to support new ideas, she built an early solar house, in 1979, in Newfane, and a solar passivhaus, in 2006 in Brattleboro, designed by her architect son Christopher.
Of a restless energy, simple travel was always a big part of Lyn's life. On a Russian cruise ship around South America she met her second husband Alan Barrett, a retired English headmaster. In 1986 they were married at her house in Brattleboro. They returned to his home in London, England and had many happy years traveling together until his death.
In 2000, she came back to Brattleboro for her many friends, classical music, All Souls Church, and another house building. She is survived by her sons, Christopher and Carleton Proctor, her sister, Faith Armington, and her two nieces, Wendy McDougall and Laurel Lang.
