Fried [a pseudonym] was a leading voice in the Tat-Kreis along with Hans Zehrer, Giselher Wirsing, Ernst Wilhelm Eschmann. The book was rejected by Faber for publication in English based on the equivocal report of Isaiah Berlin, whose extensive critique can be found in his Letters, 1928-1948, pp. 638-642 : "It is broad but it is not deep, in places even transparently shallow" (641), but it is written for a public by someone whose "intuitions and arguments and prejudices are approximately on the same level as those of his audience. And this makes it a peculiarly interesting document for the sociologist, the practical politician, and the intelligent reader.".
