Inaugurationsrede gehalten am 14. October 1882. Church historian. Born in Wismar, converted to Catholicism in 1851, 1860 Professor in Graz, from 1871 in Vienna, 1885 member of the Herrenhaus, died in Innsbruck. His main work was the "Geschichte der Quellen - des kanonischen Rechts (1870).

Main work by Tübinger theologian. Schwegler was criticized in the 1850s as a follower of Strauss and Baur, debunking Protestantism through historical criticism. Today this two-volume work is said to make him Baur's most important student (RGG). He also wrote histories of philosophy and of Rome.
