Although the notes and introduction to the Penguin Classics edition of Webster's plays was marked copyright © D.C. Gunby, 1972 no copyright claim was made to the text of the plays themselves (even though Gunby modernized the spelling and modified the punctuation, contractions and elisions.)

In his notes Gunby directed us to the F.L. Lucas, four-volume edition of The Complete Works of John Webster (1927, republished in 1966) for an old style spelling version (although Gunby may since have produced an old style spelling edition of his own since then.)

In Three Plays Gunby supplies word defintions in footnotes and a scene by scene synopsis and more detailed notes as endnotes. Because of the complication of rendering the text into HTML the line numbers that Gunby and Penguin Books supplied have been ommitted here and the line format is presented differently.
