In the draft of The Waste Land

In the published version of The Waste Land we have:

• Who are those hooded hordes swarming
• Over endless plains, stumbling in cracked earth

In the draft version:

• Who are those hooded hordes swarming
  
• Over Polish plains, stumbling in cracked earth
  

The draft version does more to steer us toward the "decay of eastern Europe" reading that Eliot's note to Part V mentions than does the final version.
