Eliot spent the 1910-1911 academic year doing post-graduate studies at the Sorbonne in Paris[1]. In the summer of 1911 he visited northern Italy[2] and also Munich. While in Munich he completed The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock[3].
In The Waste Land Eliot mentions the Hofgarten, a park in Munich, and the Starnbergersee, a nearby lake (as is the Königssee, mentioned in his draft of the poem.)
