In the draft of The Waste Land

Five stanzas in the original described the young man carbuncular. He was "a youth of twentyone", a common loiterer, a name dropper, and unambitious. His hair was thick with grease and he flicked his cigarette ashes onto the young lady's floor as he tilted back in his chair.
