Historical Societies and Fan Clubs
for Teams that Left Town

Here there is little in the nature of a review, and that is usually from a single source. If you are willing and able to describe the range of interests and activities for one of these Societies and Clubs, for quotation or paraphrase here, please write to Paul Wendt.

Bob [Brady] sent me a complimentary copy of one number of the BBHA Newsletter. It includes the features that I expected, but more of them: trivia and nostalgia; "In Memoriam" and "Where Are They Now?"; notices of calendars, stamps, cards, tickets, songs, and a Danbury mint replica of Braves Field. One that surprised me is the roster of the 1953 Boston Braves in Spring Training, before the 11th hour move to Milwaukee. There is an annual reunion and banquet, some Sunday in October, which has flourished since the 50th anniversary of the 1948 pennant winners. Members now sell it out, I suspect. Anyone is welcome to join the walking tour of Braves Field, a few hours before the banquet, no charge. The BBHA recently published A Tour of Braves Field, $15.00, with photos and text covering both "the Wigwam" (when it was a ballpark) and what remains today at Nickerson Field (the BU SportStad). --quoted from Paul Wendt, "SABR-BOS newsletter", October 2000

Bud Kane, Treasurer 443 Fieldcrest Dr. Webster Groves, MO 63119 newsletter: Pop Flies One item from the newsletter is in the SABR Research Library, mentioned in The SABR Bulletin, May 2001. 100th Anniversary Party, 16 May 2002 (apparently the 21st annual reunion) The St. Louis Browns Fan Club Officers planned that this would be the last annual event. It was a success and there is interest in continuing. "the Browns players are just sparkling. Their wit and candor about their playing days is so refreshing and enlightening. And they truly seem overwhelmed at the attention paid them at these events." --Nic Antoine source: Nic Antoine, multiple years
