The Boston Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research invites you
to our very first "post-curse" regional meeting! Come bask in the afterglow
and enjoy a program full of noted speakers and engaging research
presentations. The six-hour program includes a break for lunch.

The Program
Andy Andres, Ph.D. -- Steroids and Baseball
Dr. Andres has studied and researched steroids for over 15 years. He will
discuss his research on steroids and baseball, including the physiological
implications of steroid use on player performance and how steroids impact the
sport. He is an assistant professor at Boston University, and a data analyst for
baseballhq.com. He also instructs a class in sabermetrics at Tufts University.
Dick Johnson -- 120 Years of Dodgers Baseball
The Sports Museum of New England curator will discuss his recent research and
book, The Dodgers: 120 Years of Dodgers Baseball (Glenn Stout co-author).
Dick has authored or co-authored several books, including Red Sox Century,
Yankees Century, The American Game: Baseball and Ethnicity, Images of America:
The Boston Braves, DiMaggio: An Illustrated Life, Jackie Robinson: Between the
Lines, and Ted Williams: A Portrait in Words and Pictures.
Leigh Montville -- Why Not Us?
The former Boston Globe columnist and senior writer at Sports Illustrated will
discuss his new book, Why Not Us?: The 86-year Journey of the Boston Red Sox
Fans From Unparalleled Suffering To The Promised Land Of the 2004 World Series,
which is about what the triumph meant to Red Sox fans and how it felt to be one
-- not only at 20 minutes to midnight on October 27, 2004, but since Nuf Ced!
Tim Grassey -- The Significance of Defense and Defensive Statistics
A Babson College senior, Tim is a lifelong Red Sox fan who plans on working in
baseball after college. He will present his current work, a complex analysis of
of baseball defense and defensive statistics. Tim's research challenges
established theories and presents some new ones.
Mark Kanter's Trivia Quiz
So you think you know baseball? Mark will test your baseball IQ, challenging the
audience with a series of baseball questions, with a prize for the winner.
Raffle & Blind Auction
This one-of-a-kind raffle and blind auction offers attendees a chance to win
some outstanding items, including an autographed Keith Foulke baseball with
hologram authentication, a 2004 World Series Media Guide, an autographed Luis
Tiant baseball, four tickets to a Portland Sea Dogs game, items from other
teams, baseball books, and other great prizes.
Book Signing
Dick Johnson and Leigh Montville will sell and sign copies of their new books.
Chapter news and information will also be provided, including a message from
Seamus Kearney, Chair, and Dave Southwick's update on the 1975 Red Sox Project.

On-street and off-street parking lots are close by, including the Granby Street
lot just east of the CAS building and the University Road lot beside the BU
bridge just west of the same complex. We expect some on-street parking because
this is a weekend during BU's winter break.
Mass Transit:
Take the green line to the BU Central stop. The College of Arts and Sciences
building is just next to Marsh Plaza. Transit maps are available at the MBTA web
site: http://www.mbta.com .
Driving:
From the West or Southwest
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) East to Exit 18, Brighton/Cambridge.
Exit left. Follow signs to Cambridge to the second set of lights.
Turn right at the lights onto Soldiers Field Road/Storrow Drive.
Exit Storrow Drive at the Kenmore exit. At the first set of traffic
lights, turn right onto Beacon Street.
At this point, the road forks.
Take the left fork into Kenmore Square.
Bear right at the far end of Kenmore Square onto Commonwealth Avenue.
The College of Arts and Sciences is at 725 Commonwealth Ave.
The SABR Meeting is in Room 211.
From the Southeast
Take I-93 Route 3 (Southeast Expressway) North to Boston.
Exit onto Storrow Drive.
Continue on Storrow Drive to the Kenmore Square exit.
At the first set of traffic lights, turn right onto Beacon Street.

From the North
Take I-93 or Rte. 1 south to Boston.
Exit onto Storrow Drive.
Continue on Storrow Drive to the Kenmore Square exit.
