Corporate memory loss sounds like a fascinating idea. I had an
interesting insight into corporate memory in my last e-mail message that I
think is worth sharing. The message was a weekly humor page with about 10
short stories. I read them all and laughed at each, even though I had
heard one or two of them before. I suspect really original jokes are rare
and old jokes have a lifespan that keeps them circulating just long enough
to remain funny, survive, and replicate inside the system. Perhaps
corporate memory has the same attribute, in which case information may not
actually disappear but simply be circulating elsewhere and awaiting an
appropriate return date.
