Hello Ben and everyone,
I' ve just got back to this list after a busy few months, and have been
catching up on recent postings. I am fascinated to see that none of the
people who triggered Ben's original questions:
>>A) Shallow for me to quote Tom Peters
>>B) Why the quote I referenced isn't accurate
>>C) If there are indeed those who feel like my participation on this list
distracts from its usefulness and/or credibility
have replied publicly to him on the list. What does this mean?
Ben - I have to ask: have any of these people replied to you privately?
Did you gain any insights from them?
Re. A) - 'snobbery' exists everywhere and since Tom Peters is not an
academic I suppose his books are seen by some as as 'pulp' or 'low
quality'. I think he also fell into a bit of disrepute when many of the
companies in "Search for Excellence" (did I get that title right, I don't
have a copy here?) ended up with poor performance or going out of
business. Nevertheless he provides a great service by getting the message
of "a new way of doing things" out to a very large number of people - far
more than would read an academic-oriented book or article.
Re. C), I would suggest that the people who made the comments to you have
just as much to learn by reflecting on their attitudes as you do!!! But I
wonder if they do?
Cheers
Cherry
