After the recent developments of my job situation I passed a couple of
postings from here to the "big boss" (the CEO, I think. The titles have
changed form time to time.) We got the chance to sit and talk a bit about
how communications are perceived by others and then parted.

Sometime later I was offered a promotion and wanted to talk about the
situation a little before I accepted it. The money was lower than it
should be but there were other reasons, as well. As we talked I was told
that the reson people come to work for a smaller company was because they
traditionally pay three times what larger companies pay.

Besides wanting to take issue with the accuracy of that statement, I also
wanted to take issue with the validity, too. I know why I decided to work
there and the money wasn't the reason. Sure, I see potential for growth
and, with that growth, an increase in my income. But the crap that must
be put uyp with far outweighs the potential monetary reward.

What stopped me from arguing further was the realization that he sincerely
believed what he was saying. More than that, this view is a common view
in so many organizations and is accepted by many workers in those
organizations, as well.

I decided to go ahead and take the promotion and do what I think is right
as we build this organization. Once successful, I may not be making what
I or my work is worth, but there is always another job if I am willing to
look for it. I just have to remember that so I don't give up my personal
freedom in the process.
