Replying to LO12504 --

Matthew Holmes in LO12504 built on the Christopher Columbus Trophy theme
and my "bulking up" theme of training. Cool.

Let me first say that I love the Columbus Trophy -- that's why it is a
trophy -- and that my general operating paradigm (in reality) is throwing
mud at the wire fence.

So his was a Good post. Good ideas. We always need at least some people
to think out of the box (or even assume that there is no box).

And there is a Big Discussion in the Training and Development List (TRDEV)
about how to force participants back to the class on time - all kinds of
stuff, positive and negative. Me, I take the route that people need to
know the timing expectations but that if they have something more
important to do, then do it!

But sometimes I think trainers think their stuff is more important than
the manager's organizational survival and getting the job done.

Weird. And then they wonder why managers don't give them much
credibility!

The simple key for my work is objectivity - stepping back from the wagon
to see if any possibiliites for improvement exist. Simple. (Maybe too
simple for everyone / always but certainly workable in much of our lives
and work).
