I saw the following in an interview with Jack Smith (CEO of GM) and wanted
to share it. He's talking about the best career moves that he had made.
For me, one related example is the benefit of reworking a computer program
along more generalized and more easily usable lines. How could that relate
to learning organizations? Maybe it emphasizes that the work that is done
has to be motivated enough to go through tight places (Greek - aporias)
that might not be chosen for pleasantness :)
"I've thought about this for a long time now and it seems the best moves
were the ones that were the most difficult to make. I've found that
drastic change brought out the best in me. I discovered that change also
brought along with it pleasure and satisfaction that comes from working
with talented colleagues from all over the world on challenging and
worthwile projects."
