You focus on the observation that some of the most significant personal
learning takes place in an atmosphere of "unsafety", or what I might call
groundlessness (i.e. as if the rug was pulled out from me). This deeply
corresponds to my experience. It also reminds me of a colleague who
states that, "as adults, we change less from seeing the light than feeling
the heat".

It is in fact a paradox, I think, that polarizes safety and risk. Once
integrated (if that ever happens) we see them as two sides of the same
coin.
