The Association for Quality and Participation's
Center for Community Excellence
Invites you to a Community Quality Forum:
"Engaging People in Community Improvement"
Sunday, May 4, 1997, Baltimore, MD
Baltimore Convention Center, Baltimore, Maryland
8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
AQP Members: $75.00/Non-members: $125.00

As a leader in the field of "participation," AQP is striving to engage
people in participation beyond workplace walls, to the larger systems of
which we're all part: our communities. This Forum will reveal many
exciting results of people participating in community improvement.

Join with such notable community quality pioneers as Myron Tribus, Carole
& David Schwinn, Bill DeCrease, Barbara Hummel, and many others to explore
what works and what doesn't, through the following discussions:

The W.E. Deming Institute and City of Tacoma, as partners, will discuss
how the Deming System of Profound Knowledge relates to community practice.

The 10 Links in the Chain of Transformation for any community will be
discusse d by Myron Tribus.

Communities and Corporations: What are the key differences and how do they
influence transformation strategies?

Theory and Practice: What's emerging from the research on community
quality linked to practical examples from various communities, featuring a
panel of experienced community quality practitioners

A Community Measurement Case Study will reveal what was actually
accomplished, when it is all said and done.

Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to explore with one
another and with presenters other issues of specific interest in an "open
space" environment. "Open space" as method of group learning and
engagement is gaining widespread use in communities. Thus, participants
here will not only learn about content issues of interest, but about how
to engage others in their communities in important discussions and work.

The day promises to be very dynamic, helping us learn what has/hasn't
worked in the citizen "engagement" process, and the significant results
that can be achieved through such grass roots participation. Other
organizations involved in this movement will participate, with the
objective of developing collaborative efforts and moving forward together.
