Replying to LO12011 --

Clyde put two ideas together in his message - the 'inner circle' concept
and the 'organizational defensive routine'.

Perceived alienation can be a result of mixed messages (hence my belief
that effective communication has to be present in order to make any
organisation cohesive for long-term effectiveness).

I attended an after-dinner speech recently given by a senior
representative from Marks and Spencers, who made the point that when
'walking the job', he looks out for how people use language on the 'shop
floor' ... if he hears lots of 'we's being spoken, he knows things are OK
- if he hears any 'they's, he knows there's a problem to sort out.

Changing 'they's to 'we's is one of the things that can transform an
organisation.
