Janet says

"Why do organizations fall back on the formal heirarchy, rather than
creating multiple, overlapping, temporary bits of systems where everyone
participates, not just a chosen few? Maybe it's difficult to make these
bits and pieces fit into an understandable whole. "

Does this mean there is a role for leadership as well? It seems we need
design principles that tell us what is critical to our success, and we
need sensors that tell us what is going on in the world that impacts us.
With these we have the capacity to create small, temporary hierarchies
that respond to emerging situations, and on completion of their task,
disband. Participants in these task forces have no ownership in making it
an ongoing assignment, because they already have full-time jobs. I sense
an emerging perspective (for me) of a more resilient organizational
structure.
