Replying to LO10787 --

Rick Karash, paraphrasing Dee Hock:

>People incapable of self governance are incapable of *being* governed.

Could it also be said, "People incapable of self-leadership are incapable
of being led?"

This brought to mind an excellent article by Richard J. Leider, titled,
"The Ultimate Leadership Task--Self-Leadership." (The essay appears in
_The Leader of the Future_, pulished by the Drucker Foundation,
Jossey-Bass, 1996.) In it, the author states, "...All change is
self-change...There is no way to do change in a nice, tidy manner...With
self-change you get emotions...Change requires
self-leadership...individual choice remains the key to creating a
high-performance team. You cannot build a great team [or community] from
a collection of passive parts." Leider goes on to suggest 20 valuable
tips for self-leadership.

Can we indeed be led or be leaders if we're not capable of
self-discipline, able to lead ourselves?
