I do not think that those who expressed doubts about the word 'unlearning'
(certainly in my own case) were not accepting the CONCEPT that the word
'unlearning' tries to convey. My objection was linguistic - that the word
conveys inferences which do not accord with the cognitive processes being
described.
The Toffler quote does not just talk of 'unlearning', it posits a learning
cycle. I use Engestrom's term 'Cycle of Expansive Learning' which seems to
me to better express the notion of learning expanding like a tree's
growth, with prior learning held within and integral to the new learnings
and new boundaries that people reach.
