Sherri has saved me a good deal of effort by pointing out that:

a) "Spirituality is a fairly neutral word and can be applied to all of
the [topics we've been addressing on this thread]."

and

b) "Dogma is a way of managing a system -- no judgement of good or bad
-- it's just one way that is chosen."

With regard to the first point, let me register my emphatic agreement. In
many respects it is this primitive (logically primitive) attribute of
human beings that *is* our topic. Keeping that in mind might help us to
avoid getting distracted by anticlerical or anti-ecclesiastical
sentiments.
