Ben, I think you've stated the reason for our school systems overlooking
emotional development of students: fostering emotional development is seen
as parents' responsibility and domain, and there is bitter opposition to any
intrusion from institutions, such as schools. Unfortunately, there's
probably a "vicious cycle" operating: the people who would be most
threatened by schools fostering emotional skills are probably the ones who
are most unable to foster such skills in their own children because they lack
the skills themselves.
