Replying to LO9128 --

What is the purpose of a community of practice? To me it is the
practice. What is the purpose of this list? For me it is engagement
in a domain of practice or interest loosely referred to as
organisational learning.

Narrowing down to a specific purpose, vision or intention, while it
may not harm the list, will contribute nothing to me. I welcome a
mix of intentions. What I look for is contributions from individuals
from their own interests, their own challenges, their own experience,
questions and unique backgrounds. The contribution is a natural
effect of participation and I'm looking for nothing more.

Rick's comment about information to noise ration is everything for
me. I know how to delete, bypass and not respond. I will
participate as long as the information (interest) outweighs the noise
(time and attention to bypass).

The looseness with which Rick describes his purpose is exactly right
for me.
