I don't mean to be deprecating, but that's the most simple way
to get rid of the whole issue : divide the posters into two
groups. One group is very comfortable with what's happening.
The
other is not....but that's okay since this is most probably not
suited for them anyway !
---------------------------------------------------
I never said that my explanation somehow solved the
problem. (If that was I had tried to say, then I'd deserve to
be deprecated.) But I actually agree that there needs to be
more of an application-orientation to accommodate "S" needs --
a balance not just in participants but in the discussions as
well. This was my whole point in asking "S's" to stick with it.
More power to the S's!
What I tried to convey was a possible explanation for
what you called the "whole issue" (a need for more "how to"
dialogue if I'm paraphrasing you correctly). My point is that
demographics of the personality types that are attracted to
this discussion group may play some part in both what is said
and how it is said. My intent, therefore, was to try to
increase understanding of "the system (the listserv), the parts
(the participants, including our host), and the
interrelationship between those parts (our dialogue)." -- some
"proverbial" food for introspective thought.

I'm not asking to change the entire nature of the
dialogue on LO. I'm only asking if there is another, different
way of conducting the dialogue... For example, like Robert
said, crisper messages would be a great improvement.
------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure I understand how this would help us focus more on
"how-to" dialogue, but I like "fortune cookie messages too (as
Robert describes them)!

e.g.:
BTW: NOTHING is provable, only disprovable, even in the
"hardest" science!
