Replying to LO8916 --

For some reason unknown to me I've stayed away from this thread, even
though it has interested me. Since I have an opinion or two, I'll throw it
in the pot.

First, one of the things I enjoy most about this listserver is that it
helps us watch our thinking emerge. I feel this is important, as it helps
us see where we've been, and where we are now.

Second, it allows multiple conversations to occur without all the noise
congestion common at parties and other social gatherings. I like quiet . .
. the more quiet the better. And so I enjoy sitting in my office at night,
all alone, reading the incoming mail, thinking about things without being
disturbed (except for the occasional phone call from my wife, wondering
when I'm coming home from work), and being able to follow multiple
conversations at a time. It is, frankly, remarkable.

Third, I don't see why the list couldn't be expanded (unless, of course,
Rick doesn't want to deal with all the stuff this would require) for this
list to take on some new forms. For instance, real audio could be used to
broadcast seminars/lectures/group discussions about LO's that we can
either listen to on our computers or participate in from our computers. I
think this would be a fascinating thing to do, as it would make it a
little more human, and much more interactive.

[Host's Note: I'm quite interested in seeing new vehicles emerge in the
learning-org family. But, I don't have any more time to devote to this
than I am spending already. So, I'm interested in any volunteers who would
like to try something. Alp Basel in South Africa suggested we try IRC
(Internet relay chat -- same time, different place communication) but I
don't think any group ever tried. ...Rick]

The conversations, lectures, and seminars (presented by members of this
list, or by guests if they could be arranged) could be recorded and stored
as a real time audio for future reference.

Just a few thoughts on the topic. . .
