I think that's probably true...however I am starting to shift away from
focusing on the listening idea (active, reflective), to a much broader
issue of responsiveness which is a bit more complex.

It seems to me that dialogue can occur when each party is responsive to
the utterances and meanings of the other...that responsiveness may mean
using active listening techniques, but it also can mean responding in ways
that are not usually called listening, but show that the individuals are
being heard and responded to.
