Mary asks,
I've just received a request from an organization that considers itself an
LO requesting a defense or rejection of the following statement:
"It is traditional wisdom in the business world that a coporation is only
as good as the people it employs."
How would you react to this statement--in writing, that is?
== end quote ==
There is a long list of limitations or enhancements on the 'goodness' of a
corporation. The term 'good' needs defiinition, but I will pass on that.
No matter what it is, the following all have a critical impact on the
ability of a company.
Leadership
employees
suppliers
product
marketing
cash flow
One could argue that suppliers and product will be outcomes of employees.
However, I have seen companies where excellent employees had not 'evolved'
to the point of recognizing the critical nature of their suppliers. In
fact recognition of the importance of suppliers is a very recent
phenomenon in the history of business. The same is true of marketing.
Great employees have the notion that their product will sell itself. Not
true. Communication is critical.
