Managing at The Edge

BrainPool is proud to present
A one day seminar featuring leading management educator, physicist and
philosopher Danah Zohar, author of The Quantum Self and The Quantum Society.

on Thursday 29th August at The Lister Post-Graduate Institute, Hill Square,
Edinburgh
from 9.30am to 5pm

Danah Zohar offers new ways of thinking about organisations and new ways to
encourage creativity and meaning. Danah Zohar teaches at Oxford Brookes
University, The London Business School and the London School of Economics,
Her consultancy clients include Royal Dutch Shell, Shell USA, Motorola,
Skandia Insurance and Financial Services, Norwich Union, Marks and Spencer,
Philips Electronics and IBM and other leading companies.

Quantum Science and Organisations
Danah Zohar contends that the insights of modern physics have significant
implications for our understanding of everyday life, our personal
relationships, and the way we conduct business. The odd and sometimes
paradoxical world of quantum mechanics provides the underpinnings of a new
paradigm that will impact on society for generations to come.=20

Creativity
We humans are at our most creative when we are not too certain, not too
fixed, when we
are open to multiple possibility and ready to form new conceptual
categories. Yet all too
often in our organisations we stifle creativity and meaning.

In Chaos Theory, the edge is the meeting point between order and chaos. In
Quantum
Physics, the edge is that point just where an uncertain system is about to
become certain.
In both cases, the edge is where physical systems are at their most=
creative.=20

Dialogue and Meaning
The way people talk together in organisations is rapidly becoming
acknowledged as central to the creation and management of knowledge.=20

Danah will introduce Dialogue, a state of the art communications tool
pioneered by renowned physicist David Bohm. She will lead a Dialogue session
to help participants experience this important method of creating shared
meaning.=20

Dialogue is a discipline of collective learning and enquiry. It can serve as
a cornerstone for organisational learning by providing an environment in
which people can reflect together and transform the ground out of which
their thinking and acting emerges. It has for example enabled unions and
management in a US steel plant to make dramatic shifts in their ways of
thinking and talking together.

Danah Zohar is a most stimulating, and engaging speaker. You will emerge
with new insights into the future of organisations and with powerful tools
to help you make the transition.

Born in the United States, Danah received her BSc in Physics and Philosophy
from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed three years of
post graduate study in philosophy and religion at Harvard University where
she was a student of Erik Erikson.=20

Danah spends considerable time in the corporate world, teaching companies
how twentieth century physics can help them think and manage in a new ways.
She lectures widely throughout the world. Look out for her forthcoming book,
Quantum Management.
