L-O Turn-off and Values LO8579

I just wanted to share my feelings of violation as a result of the
"lurker" scenerio. I am very much appreciative of those on L-O who "know"
me from BEFORE. What I found most repulsive were the private reactions
from some lurkers who felt it was OK to condemn me in eMail without
"seeking to understand and then be understood" according to the teachings
of Steven Covey.

[Host's Note: for newcomers, the "lurker scenario" that Keith mentions is
a recent thread here on the LO list. If you want to find the thread, the
msgs LO7929, LO8271, and LO8050 would be good starting points on the LO
web pages -- http://world.std.com/~lo ...Rick]

It was sobering that these poeple who had made no contribution to the
collective learning would sit back and judge without "earning the right"
to particpate. I have been relatively unconnected as a result of this
experience. It is like being on TV being judged and not receiving any
benefit.

By comparison, though, I have been vindicated to some degree by the higher
participation on the list resulting from the series, and, in the naturally
human process of rationalization, I have felt solace in the value this
provided in learning. The really compelling observation was in observing
those who learned from the interaction and those who did not. In a
naturally human response, I feel a stronger kinship with those who
supported me and a "lurker" beware attitude for those who are judging
while not committing themselves. There a three people judging potentially
for every one "at the party".

Sincerely and with reservations...Keith

(PS I am hoping for more people to declare themselves to our L-O party)
(PPS My day job gives enough to do but L-O feeds my mind)
