Replying to LO8106 --

Regarding self-organized teams (organizations, organisms) and their nature
toward extinction: It seems to me that all such entities regardless of the
method in which they were organized eventually become extinct. To me, the
eventual extinction of a self-organization is a strength not a weakness.

In a self-organized team, people come together because they are highly
committed to a common goal and they remain together until the goal is
achieved or interests change. This is often done without support of
management and on the workers own time. This type of skunkworks has often
produced outstanding products which would have died under a budget knife.

Managements best way to handle this is stand back and let the creative
juices flow.
