Replying to LO7815 --

Here's an assumption about work in the future:

Work is a way of distributing wealth in return for the
serious and continous engagement of one's powers.

Note that there is no requirement that your personal work, or the work of
the team, be productive, only that it be sincere. Work becomes a sport --
you can join our team if you play hard, thereby confirming the importance
of our sport.

This helps explain why, no matter how productive machines become, work
never goes away, even for (or especially for) those who are replaceable by
machines.

This also helps explain why so much work is unproductive. If we were
serious about efficiency, rather than sport, a lot of activity would go away.

I thought it was interesting that EDS, in its web page, refers to its
sponsored bicyclist pros as employees. They aren't just billboards.
They are the kind of employees that EDS wants, and wants other employees
to be inspired by.
