Hi All:

I have been lurking on the list for the past several months and the work
load of school has deminished so I feel that I may have a window to
participate (at least until Aug when the kids return !!)

My name is Paul Kosuth and I am primarily a math and science instructor at
a school for students with learning disabilities--private, ages 12-21 with
a new Post Secondary program for graduates over 21.

Since anout 1992, our org has been involved in a series of long term
strategic plans. As a result I have been more heavily invested in
curriculum development (guides, standards, benchmarks, assessments, etc.)
Somewhere during this time our director pitched a curriculum note that
dealt with TQ and high schools. One thing leads to another till now I find
myself spending vast parts of my day reading/thinking about issues of
quality/systems/LO's. Of late, my charge has been to map out processes as
they exist, help structure internal planning issues (program expansion for
ex.) and in a large part (at least from my perspective) act as an internal
consultant. Our LTSPlans have been facilitated externally though I hope
that this will switch to joint facilitations this year.

My training is not in education.. I did my undergraduate in botany and
mathematics and did my Botany thesis studing growth and development of
liverworts (moss like plants) so I guess that I have been a systems
thinker for a long time . Only now I am interested in the growth and
development of me,our students and our school. I have also had some
systems, quality and values training via workshops and conferences. I am
only now reading the 5th D so I can keep up with the excellent discussion
here.

I do have some thoughts and comments about some of the threads ( I am a
little concerned about the comments in quality of public education thread)
but they will have to wait.

thanks
Paul Kosuth
