When I was editing Systems Research when it was published by Pergamon
Press, I introduced a new feature called "System Profile". I invited
individuals who were prominent in the systems arena to write a short
autobiographical sketch, revealing those turning points in their lives
which got them interested in systems. This feature was probably the most
popular one of the journal.
Persons interested in such things may want to dig out some of them. Here
are some of the authors represented there: C. West Churchman, Bela
Banathy, George Klir, Kenneth Boulding, Alexander Christakis, Gerard
DeZeeuw.
Because of the diversity of this systems arena, it seems important for
younger people especially to try to learn what got these people caught up
in this arena.
Your librarian can help you find this material through some of the
abstracting services. The articles appeared in the period from 1980 to
1990.
