For some time, Jim Michmerhuizen was a correspondent here. I haven't seen
a post from Jim for several months now. About this time last year, you
could count on 3 or 4 posts a week in which Jim would explore an idea
posted to this list. This exploration was often a ramble around the idea
and its implications, sometimes in the form of a dialogue with himself.

I doubt that everyone - and I'm not sure that anyone - enjoyed Jim's posts
as much as I did, but they certainly captured whatever it is I come here
for. I definitely don't come to "make a few points" and have very little
interest in the "points" of those who do.*

Indeed, I am sometimes disappointed to see exchanges reflecting genuine
inquiry degrade into showy making of points - sometimes in flowery
language, sometimes in abstruse argument, and sometimes even in "frequent
short messages."

* (John Warfield excepted, who has clearly devoted many years of valuable
study to a very specific area of scholarship without the kind of
recognition such work generally deserves, and who is therefore "forgiven"
if he is sometimes cantankerously contentious.)
