4TH ANNUAL
INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDENTS OF ORGANIZATIONS CONFERENCE

"CONSIDERING ORGANIZATIONS: DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES,
UNIQUE CHALLENGES, & FUTURE DIRECTIONS"

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
October 4-6 1996

CO-SPONSORED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO AND BOSTON COLLEGE

The Interdisciplinary Students of Organizations invites organizational
scholars pursuing graduate degrees to join in our 4th Annual Organizational
Studies Doctoral Student Conference in
Chicago, Illinois, October 4-6, 1996. This conference welcomes graduate
students from multiple disciplines, including management, sociology,
psychology, social psychology, planning, political science, economics, health
management, communications, and anthropology, who are interested in exploring
how multi-disciplinary approaches can enrich our knowledge of organizations.
Our goals are simple:
to break down the barriers between disciplines by creating opportunities to
share research ideas, to explore the future of the study of organizations,
and to develop peer networks in a supportive, non-competitive environment.
The theme for the 4th Annual Conference is "Considering Organizations:
Diverse Perspectives, Unique Challenges, & Future Directions". Paper
sessions are inter-disciplinary and organized around "issue tracks," rather
than along traditional disciplinary lines. In addition to paper sessions,
"Dialogue, Learning, and Synergy" sessions will also be featured. Each of
these sessions will include a very brief presentation (no more than ten
minutes) intended to create an in-depth, interactive discussion of a
particular research area, idea, or question. In contrast to paper sessions
these sessions are for fuller discussion, exchange of ideas or work in
progress, and development of work in a given area. In the past, paper and
dialogue sessions have addressed the following topics:

- Organizational Change
- Organizational Learning
- Leadership
- Interorganizational Relationships
- Teams and Groups
- Organizatonal Cognition
- Leadership
- Human Resources
- Technology
- International Strategies
- Uncertainty

Submissions may relate to a any of a wide variety of organizations,
including:

- Business Organizations
- Government
- Non-Profit Organizations
- Non-Traditional Organizations

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
We are encouraging both formal paper presentations and Dialogue, Learning,
Synergy sessions. We encourage submissions that develop knowledge of either
theory or practice. Papers and session proposals
do not have to be multi-disciplinary, but those that invite
cross-disciplinary discussions will be given special consideration. Awards
for best paper and best reviewer will be presented at the closing session.

Submissions are due by May 31, 1996. Acceptance decisions will follow.
Authors of papers must send three (3) copies of the submissions. Each
submission should be accompanied by an extra copy of the abstract and title
page including every author's name, address, telephone number, fax number,
e-mail address, and full affiliation. The text of papers, excluding exhibits
and references must not exceed 25 pages and should follow the Style Guide for
Authors in the Academy of Management Journal.

an overview statement of 1-3 pages, excluding references and exhibits. Each
submission should include three (3) copies of the statement and one (1) title
