I agree with Rol. I haven't met the CEO who didn't agonise over
downsizing. That doesn't make them (or it) "right" but at least we
can see them as human and, just possibly, have some compassion.

They are doing what they know.

The challenge that I offer is for management to be accountable for
the productivity and possibility of those they are responsible for so
that downsizing is not called for and the future of the whole is
enriched.

However, there is one statement that shows us embedded - once again -
in a linear (ar at least less than complex) model. The ideas that
anyone or group does or does not "come first" is likely to be missing
that what exists and what emerges are from the interplay of the
elements and that there *is* no first.
