Hi all, my name is Wolfgang Schmid. I am living in Vienna/Austria/Europe,
and my age is 34 (9/1996).
As my first degree I hold a doctor in "technical chemistry", received at
the Technical University of Vienna. I work in Austrians national oil
company, OMV, at the moment in the position of a shift-manager. This is an
opertional job where I am the head of 100 people, who run the whole
refinery. Especially that job shows me daily, that most people wish to
contribute something to their job, and that is our culture, our
management, our structure that tends to demotivate them to contribute
more. My access to the learning organization is a practical one: I wish to
know how to move a old organization more toward the ideal of the learning
organization, to gain in the long-term the only sustainable competitive
advantage that may exist.
But I had also the opportunity to work for a year in the corporate
strategy department of my company, what has motivated me to start a MBA
additionally to my shift-job. I do the MBA with The Open Business School
of The Open University, what I started 1994. Last year I did the two
courses "Strategic Management" and "Creative Management", and this year I
will do "Finanzial Management" and "International Management", what will
finish my MBA hopefully.
Special areas of interst are computers, management and strategies,
behaviour of people and systems, but also skiing, tennis and video filming
(but with my MBA I do not find much time for my hobbies).
There seems to be a lot of interesting material in this maillist. Special
areas of interest are all questions about empowerment and vision building,
but also organizational renewal and reengineering. I am a fan of Peter
Senge's new 'Fieldbook', and I try to find the time to learn how to use
Powersim as Management Flight Simulator, as described in the Fieldbook.
