Regarding jargon;

I saw some R&D work done in "something something Ontology" regarding
shared context on the KBSI web site - http://www.kbsi.com

John O'Neill in Australia is doing research in this area too.

Regarding teaching people how to model;

I think it would be great if modellers could both learn to model and
learn to choose between the alternative ways of modelling (I'm not sure
if I've accurately said what I want to say).

What I concluded after talking to someone about IDEF is that IDEF (or
any other modelling methodology) can only describe a certain level of
learning about a system.

A really good book that describes a process for modelling and learning
how to choose between alternatives in modelling would be "A Science of
Generic Design" by John Warfield. Chris Argyris' books would be great
too.
