Replying to LO4849 -- in which Ronald Heifetz is quoted as saying:
>RAH - The tougher the problems the more we tend to want easy answers. We
>look for leaders to fix our problems, who make difficult problems seem
>simple. Crime, a failing educational system, drug abuse, the deficit are
>not simple problems to fix. When we say - cut the deficit but don't raise
>my taxes - we need leaders who will point out the inconsistencies and
>engage us in facing the challenge. Looking for leaders with easy answers
>is too much of a customer mindset. ........

Heinz Von Foerster is well known as a cybernetics pioneer. He is retired
from the University of Illinois. I cannot quote his "First Law" exactly,
but it goes something like this:

"The more complexity is ignored, and the more simplistic solutions are
offered for complex issues, the greater the likelihood of attaining wealth
and power". I will try to locate the accurate statement of the Law.
