Rachel Silber and others question #2 of my criteria for defining an
organization, that its members occupy, most of the time, a particular
physical space.
I don't want to put too fine a point on this. In sociological jargon,
there are uni-bonded and multi-bonded human groups. The Catholic church
would probably be uni-bonded. Most organizations probably are. But
societies, in order to function, are multi-bonded-- must have members who,
generally, share similar perceptions of reality and patterns of action.
That sharing comes from spending time together.
