STUDIO ALUMNI PRESS NOTICES:

"I never expect to hear a better performance than this one,
musically or dramatically." The Washington Post

"-gave a stark seriousness to Carmen...handsomely assured."
New York Times

"You'll sense an inner harmony here in that the composer
himself surely expected and wrote for just such a voice."
Audio Magazine

"She has refined her vocal instrument to the very razor's
edge of perfection." Los Angeles Times
----------------------------------------

from "THE FIFTH DISCIPLINE"
"It is vital that the five disciplines
develop as an ENSEMBLE.
This is challenging because it
is much harder to integrate
new tools then simply
apply them separately.
But the payoffs are immense."
Peter M. Senge (pg. 12)

RAY EVANS HARRELL is the Artistic Director/Conductor of the

MAGIC CIRCLE OPERA REPERTORY ENSEMBLE, INC.
America's only full-time chamber opera ensemble, in
residence at the International Theater of the Avant Garde
"LaMama E.T.C." in New York City.

MAGIC CIRCLE OPERA REPERTORY ENSEMBLE
(What the PRESS is saying about MCORE)

"RAY EVANS HARRELL, started the MAGIC CIRCLE OPERA REPERTORY
ENSEMBLE in 1990 with the idea of giving young singers not
only stage experience, but also administrative experience.
The ensemble's steady roster of 18--including singers,
dancers, a stage director, a choreographer and a composer--
doubles as an executive committee responsible for raising
money and doing the other tasks that keep the company
afloat." New York Times

"A CHILDHOOD MIRACLE" (recording premiere)
"But the piece de resistance came after intermission:
The New York orchestral staged premiere of the (Ned Rorem)
opera "A Childhood Miracle"...lovingly conducted by the
company's Artistic Director RAY EVANS HARRELL"
Opera Monthly

"STONES TIME AND ELEMENTS" (World Premiere)
by Kurt Vonnegut and Edgar Grana
"The MAGIC CIRCLE CHORUS is excellent, dedicated,
and passionate...the vocal soloists are very professional.
Clearly a very gratifying work to perform and for
listening. Audio Magazine

What our COLLEAGUES are saying about the Magic Circle

--------------------------------
"the singing was at all times intelligent and often
deeply beautiful, and the instrumentalists were
perfection."
Ned Rorem,
America's greatest
Lyric Composer

"Your company is unique, beautiful, talented, amazing.
Rarely have I seen the elements of performance so perfectly
intertwined, a vision and concept so beautifully executed.
I extend my gratitude to you and your artists for an hour
of 'magic'."
Christine Arnold,
Managing Director Eugene O'Neill Theater Center

RAY EVANS HARRELL, as a performing artist.

LINCOLN CENTER DEBUT NOTICE:
"There was surely nothing hackneyed about the vocal
program given in ALICE TULLY HALL last Saturday
night. Baritone, RAY EVANS HARRELL, presented
a fascinating group of selections, the most fasmiliar of
which were eight songs from Mahler's "das Knaben
Wunderhorn." He delivered them in excellent German,
with prepared comprehension... his well choreographed
performances were highly enjoyable...Mr. Harrell's high
pianissimo passages in the Mahler were superbly delivered...
he sang Bartok's somber cycle "Ot Dal" masterfully in
Hungarian, the second song, translated as "My Bed Beckons
Me," is a glorious example of late-romantic resignation.
Harrell was especially fine here, as was pianist
MARGARET SINGER."
Zakaraisen, NYC Daily News
