Mike, this is when Myron Tribus definition or better yet "the
redefinition of what it means to be a manager." He says that "the people
work IN a system. The job of a manager is to work ON the system, to
improve it, continuously, with their help." Taking the "obstacles out
their way" is not a very easy task, because those barriers are put in
their by managers themselves, and they generally think that what they do
is right! If in many situations managers understood that their employees
performance problems are due to the fact that they have to fight the
system, the manager's system, to get things done then... I think that
this is one of the major challenges in our learning process in
organizations.
