I always enjoy your notes Ivan, perhaps the Academy of Management could
use your notes for examples of unusual learning experiences and events.
I agree with you Management school thinking is lagging behind. Reunitiing
workers with the purpose of the work is a valuable conversation to have
with those who lead and those who work.
I always endeavour to set some perspective in any of the sessions I
conduct. One of the more interesting discussions focuses around the
definition of the word "Job". Defining it as a set of tasks that when
performed well constitute an asset to the organization, this almost always
contrasts directly with the definition of a Job as a set of tasks the
individual is obliged to perform for the company. The whole idea of
obligation of workers flies in the face of reality since the company
always in indebted to the worker ie: they get paid after the work is done.
