Hello Ben --
I think that there is a question "for what purpose?" that has to be asked
every time you try to assess whether a measure or a model "really
represents" a system or it's present state.
>From years of working with models, it's clear to me that we have to be
judging appropriateness for a purpose when we try to evaluate any model.
I think the same applies to measures trying to represent the state of a
system.
