Fellow Missionaries of the LO [my MM],

Back from my hols and addicted to this list. Spent weekend scanning all
digests issued since mid-Sept. (read about other nuts later). Then, being
Sunday afternoon and pregnant with ideas, I went for a walk through the
University grounds, picked up some chestnuts from the Autumn leaves and
ended up in the 'Long Valley' Pub for a Ham Sandwich [their speciality for
poets and students] with my wife and we got the bus home...sober. The
result of that creative process (?) was that I realised that the
discomfort I felt was Creative Tension (a la Fritz). Here's why :

Thanks to Michael McMaster [Sensei], I received info from Unipart Co..
Then the HR magazine for UK/Ireland has featured the LO in latest edition,
with articles by Burgoyne & Garratt. Thanks to George Roth I was also led
to an excellent paper "From Individual & Team Learning to Systems
Learning" Ref 1995.18.003 from the MIT Center for OL. [This list is my
COL...thanks Michael, George, Rick,IA and everyone].

[Host's Note: the reference number Joe mentions is probably an MIT
working paper number.]

I must admit to seeing a difference in approach being taken on LO on both
sides of the Atlantic. The UK model seems, IMHO, to focus on 'learning'.
The US/Senge/MIT approach emphasises the deeper work of building Shared
Vision on top of Personal Vision. The latter appears to lead to an earlier
focus on results for all stakeholders. Views on any or all of the above
would be greatly appreciated. Best Regards,
